Steven Pienaar’s injury woes at Everton have continued with the news that the midfielder will miss the start of the new season with a hamstring injury.
The former Bafana Bafana skipper missed almost the entire last campaign with various injuries and after a solid pre-season to date, had hoped his luck was changing.
But he has had yet another setback after picking up a hamstring strain in training and will be out of action for some weeks, meaning he will definitely miss the start of the new English Premier League season.
“Obviously it was a really sad moment for all of us when Stevie picked up that injury in training,” Martinez told evertontv. “He’s gone back now to be fully assessed by our medical team at Finch Farm and we’ll get the results very soon.
“But it does seem it’s a problem with his hamstring and clearly he’s going to miss the start of the season, which is a real shame because Stevie worked with fantastic results and fantastic signs over the first three weeks of pre-season.
“We were very, very down about that situation and we hope to get Stevie back as soon as we can.”
Everton start their new season at home to Watford on August 8.
